WHAT WE DO
Meaningful Work in Your Community
Junior Justice Program
Small Axe Foundation takes a comprehensive approach to supporting our communities. One of the ways we do this is through education at the elementary school level. For our team, one of the issues we see in our communities every day is the role the justice system plays in oppressing marginalized communities. We believe that teaching the members of our communities how the justice system works is a crucial tool in navigating that labyrinth effectively and successfully. To that end, we have created the Junior Justice Program.

Through the Junior Justice Program, Executive Director Jessica San Luis brings her decades of knowledge of and experience working in the justice system to the classroom. For grades 4 through 8, Jessica provides a comprehensive lesson which includes an age-appropriate overview of how the judicial branch of local government works, and includes a "mini mock trial" activity for students.
Testimonials
"I am a fourth-grade teacher in Alameda County. Jessica brought her Junior Justice to my classroom earlier this year, and it was an incredible experience for all of my students. Jessica presents a complicated subject in a powerful, but age-appropriate way, and gives the students an opportunity to learn from her experience, as well as to ask their own questions about justice in America. The mini mock trial was both fun, and an important learning experience. I was so impressed with Jessica's presentation, that I gave her information to all of my colleagues as well. I hope that Small Axe Foundation continues to bring this kind of education to our local classrooms.
